Nature of request
The commonalty of Beverley request that whereas Acreman came and joined the franchise of St John of Beverley, unknown men came and seized Acreman, who remained with them, to the great damage of the franchise, wherefore they request that Acreman be remanded to the franchise, considering that the King's ancestors have never done anything to damage the franchise, and the grave sentence which is always given to those who are tried for the said offence, and considering the banner of St John which you and all your predecessors have before you in all your wars, and that the business be expedited speedily, for as long as he is outside the franchise, he is ruined.
