Description
Petitioners
William de Ayremynne (Airmyn), Bishop of Norwich.
Name(s)
de Ayremynne (Airmyn), William
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Bishop of Norwich
Nature of request
William, bishop of Norwich, requests satisfaction of £500 due to him. Formerly Newport and Brown without reasonable cause seized into the King's hands the manors of Willoughby, Silk Willoughby, Marston, a third of the soke of Waltham, the manors of North Driffield, Thornton Steward, Crathorne, Rounton, Long Preston, Drax, Yokefleet, Bradbury Isle, Coxhoe and Snape Gate and the farm of the church of Estrington, which he had by lease of the prior and convent of Durham, and levied issues from the same to the value of £500, to the great damage and destruction of the manors and to the loss of his husbandry, seed, horses, beasts, oxen and draft-horses of 17 ploughs and carts. Although the said lands, with their goods and chattels, were restored to the bishop by writ and it was ordered that the issues should also be returned, payment has not been made of the said £500 which had been paid into the Wardrobe or Treasury.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let the keepers be ordered that if anything remains to be paid, they should pay it to the bishop or his attorney, and that which remains to be levied should be assigned to the bishop.2) And concerning that which was levied in the time of the King's father, it seems to the council that he should have restitution if it pleases the King.3) Concerning that which was levied and paid into the Wardrobe or Treasury, allowance should be made in wardships or marriages or other things or assignment.
