Nature of request
Brent, Seyrman, Warmuster, Gylbord, Knappe, Balby, Whyt, Arthur, Bonevyll, Spark and Yong, merchants, bought hides at Limerick and loaded their ships with the said merchandises to go to the King's staple to pay their custom and cocket when, because of a great storm on the sea and fear of their enemies, they arrived in Bristol and unloaded their merchandises and sold part of them, because of which the king's customs officers arrested the remainder of their merchandises, notwithstanding the statutes of Edward III and Richard II to the contrary. The said merchants request that the king ordain that the said merchandises be released and that the merchants with their remaining merchandises can go freely without paying custom or cocket according to the purport of the said statutes.
Nature of endorsement
