Description
Petitioners
William Sedesse, merchant of Bordeaux.
Name(s)
Sedesse, William
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France]
Normandy, [France]
Sandwich, [Kent].
Nature of request
Sedesse requests that the king grant by letters and writs that he may load 400 quarters of wheat at Sandwich and take them to Bordeaux without impediment, since before St Thomas last he was given license to export a quantity of wheat from here to Bordeaux, for which he bought the wheat and pledged his ship at great cost, but the ship was arrested for transporting the men of the king into Normandy whereby he suffered great damages, instead taking wine and exchanging it for the said wheat at Sandwich..
Nature of endorsement
[Illegible].
Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1362, with reference to CCR 1360-4, p. 407, a 1362 order to the mayor and bailiffs of Sandwich (in response to petition of Sedesse, among others) to take 2d. from each of the said merchants of Bordeaux and their yeomen, and to keep the money safe until further order, allowing the said merchants to pass to Gascony with their ships and goods without impediment or distraint. The order is probably in response to this petition.
