Nature of request
Felton requests that the king order a writ of reseisin for the castle of Lyonshall which Edward II granted him for the term of his life by letters of his great seal (a transcript of which is attached to this petition), and of which he was seised until Edward II gave him the keeping of the castle of Caerphilly at which time Devereux took Lyonshall without process of law and Edward II granted Felton restitution from his lands and tenements, goods and chattels, notwithstanding that Felton had the keeping of the castle of Caerphilly.

Dated on the guard to c. 1327, with reference to CFR 1319-27, p. 382, a 1326 grant for life by Edward II to Felton of the castle of Lyonshall, in the king's hand as an escheat by the forfeiture of William Tuchet late the king's enemy and rebel, to hold to the value of £40 annually. It also states that if the king provides Felton with £40 of land elsewhere, the king may resume the castle into his hand. The petition must therefore date to early in the reign of Edward III.
