Description
Petitioners
Raymond Durant, seneschal of Landes.
Name(s)
Durant, Raymond
Addressees

Occupation
seneschal of Landes
Nature of request
Durant bought the place of Guisses from the lady who was from there and the king confirmed the sale and put the said place in special safekeeping by his letters patent and the safekeeping was published by letters executory of the seneschal of Gascony. For a long time he held the said place in peace, then on 7 September when he was at Bordeaux for some business touching you and your duchy of Guyenne, Sir Guitard de Lebred, vicomte of Tarthas sent Bertram Dorraubien with 40 men at arms who by night placed themselves at the bottom of the moat of the said place below the brewhouse and stayed hidden until after the hour of terce so that Durant's men all went out and his wife, her ladies, the small children and the porter were left within. And then the said sheriff's men entered crying 'Tarthas, Tarthas' and ejected his wife, the ladies and others with their robes only, so that the clothes, all the other goods of wool, gold, silver, jewels, charters, letters and all other things remained in the said place. Durant requests that the king, making express mention of the said safekeeping, order the said vicomte to return the said place and things which his said people have taken, and by letters patent order the seneschal of Gascony to keep the peace.
