Nature of request
John de Redenesse requests remedy for forty acres in Reedness of which his ancestors were seised from the time of William the Conqueror until Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln disseised Adam, his father. After the death of Joan de Lacy, widow of the said earl, who held the land in dower, the land came into the hand of the King's father when Alice de Lacy, the earl's daughter, renounced her right to the land.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain persons in Chancery be assigned to inquire, in presence of the keepers of the said lands, into the estate which the said John has in the said lands and into how and when they came into the hand of Henry de Lacy and then into the hand of the King, and all other circumstances of this matter, and then to return an inquest in Chancery to be shown to the King.

Dated on the guard to 1327, with reference to CFR 1319-27, p. 174, a 1322 order to deliver land to Joan, widow of Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln. The petition probably dates from shortly after Joan de Lacy's death.
