The fishermen request a licence by letter patent so that they may fish in their customary places, as they dare not fish at the moment for fear of having their ships seized for the king's proposed voyage to his realm of France. Hastyng and Hoddys request a licence for 'a dogger', Aunsell and Umfrey for 2 'lodeshippes', and Covehithe and Pays for 'a lodeshipe'.

The petition is dated to c.1437 as a wider grant on the same matter was made on 28 February 1437 to the fisherfolk of Norfolk, with only one of the petitioners mentioned, and this petition is likely to be nearly contemporary (CPR 1436-41, p.42).
