Nature of request
Cumpton, who is to levy and distrain for the services and rents due to the king that are in his keeping requests that the sheriff of Warwickshire and Leicestershire be commanded not to make any deliverance or hold any plea in the counties of things concerning the king, but that they should answer at the Exchequer.Memorandum that people are able to levy money to the king's use from a fishery at Balsall, and of dead wood and robberies. And let it be remembered that a visitor of the hospital is come from overseas to visit and take from the hospital great sums of money, and on this let the council advise the king.1)
Nature of endorsement
He should levy from the fishery etc. to the amount of £60 if he is able to do it without making waste, and that this be by the oath of de la Knolle.2) Let de la Knolle be commanded . . . that he that he intend to this business.3) Let the sheriff be commanded that he aid in the right of the petitioner to levy the debts of the king and his farmers.
