Nature of request
[Petition in 2 parts]. 1) Foville requests that he and his merchandises can be delivered as he came to sell his goods at Great Yarmouth after the king's proclamation that all merchants could come to England to trade as long as they paid their customs, but he and his merchandises were arrested by an order of the king to arrest those of the power of the king of France. 2) [The second petition is partly illegible]. Foville requests . . . and that the ship and its equipment be delivered, as he charged a ship called 'Notre Dame' with salt to go to England but this was taken by the people of Winchelsea.

Note
The petition is dated to? 1327 on the basis of dating given in the guard note which refers to an earlier version of this petition from the time of Edward II addressed to the queen and duke. This earlier version must date to late 1326 or January 1327, and it is possible that the SC 8 petition was remade to reflect Edward II's formal deposition (SC 1/37, no.19).
