[Petition in 2 parts].1) Casse Maiour requests that another suitable person be sent to keep the castle of Bayonne, and that the seneschal of Gascony be commanded to take the current castellan and imprison him, and that his goods be taken into the king's hand as custom demands. The castellan and others killed one and wounded another burgess imprisoned in the castle by the mayor, and after the seneschal sent Raymond de Batz to be the new castellan, the castellan refused him entry, and held the castle against him.2) Casse Maiour complains of the actions of the bailiff of Bayonne in the city.
Nature of endorsement
[On face].1) It seems to the council that Lupe be summoned to the king in England, and that the seneschal ordain a suitable keeper who is profitable for the king and for the city, and let a writing be sent to those of the city to assuage their malcontent.2) Let it be ordered to Lupe that he cease such duress, and let the seneschal and constable be ordered to inform themselves of this matter, and if they find any new customs then they are to be removed.[On dorse, none].
