Description

After receiving Secretary of State's despatch of 4 August 1834, the sentence of death against Francis Xavier has been reduced to transportation for a period of fourteen years; transmits documents relating to the cases of two 'apprenticed labourers', named John and John Philip who had been sentenced to death, but who, at the recommendation of the Judge, have had their sentences reduced to transportation, the former for seven, the latter for fourteen years; includes draft reply from the Secretary of State, who believes the sentence against John Philip is not severe enough.
