Description

Refers to enslaved persons; representation from two slave 'owners' from Carriacou, William Scott and McLean, made to Maitland; Maitland states they 'were alarmed from some appearances among their Slaves that they thought indicated a mutinous disposition' and they reported links with resistance among enslaved persons in Bequia and Carriacou; Maitland reports he detached a sergeant and twenty men of the 60th Regiment to Carriacou but everything has remained quiet; states that Scott and McLean say that the clergyman Rev Mr William Nash has instilled 'dangerous opinions about Liberty into the Negroes' minds'.
