1 collective petition (17 people, directors of the United Company of merchants of England trading in the East Indies) on behalf of George Lott Philips, late captain in the East India Company, convicted at the St Helena Quarter Sessions in July 1818, for uttering/publishing a forged/counterfeit token or bill of exchange, value £241:17:10. Grounds for clemency: it was unclear if the conviction was for uttering a false bill or obtaining goods by it (the latter for which there was little or no evidence for). The forged bill is written out in full and there is a letter from Charles Bourchier returning the petition to Mr Hobhouse. A copy of the petition with the legal opinion of the Attorney General and the Solicitor General. Initial sentence: 3 years hard labour. Annotated 'Free Pard'.
