Pages 387-389. H Hobhouse to Major General Sir John Byng, Pontefract. Hobhouse states that XY has sent an account of a meeting of delegates from many towns, including some in Yorkshire and Derbyshire. It was held on Sunday in Oldham, and Knight from Manchester was in the chair. Treasonable language was used regarding a general rising, although some people were disappointed at the spirit of the people of Lancashire. Sidmouth is now keen for prosecutions to follow if evidence can be obtained. The Manchester Observer has an advert for another similar public meeting on 14 June at Aston under Line. He warns that troops may be required to support the Magistrates.
