Description

China: Manchuria (now North-East (Dongbei) Region). (1) Map of part of the Sungari River (Songhua Jiang) and the surrounding country, east of Hulan, showing place names, rivers, high land and proposed railways. Reference notes on relief, cultivation, and the distances between major settlements. Scale: 1 inch to about 15 miles. Compass indicator. (2) Map of a proposed railway line between Ninguta (now Ning'an) and the Russian frontier, showing the distances between places, in versts; also showing rivers and high land. Scale: 1 inch to about 70 miles. (3) 'Map of Manchuria': covering the area between Chita, Khabarovka (now Khabarovsk) and Port Arthur (now Lüshun, part of Dalian), showing place names, rivers, the sea, cultivated areas (in green), the Russo-Chinese frontier, and Russian railways (in black) and existing and proposed Chinese railways (in red). Scale: 1 inch to about 66 miles. Endorsed: 'II General Map of Manchuria showing various schemes for Rly Construction'. (4) 'Tracing of the Russian map of the Manchurian section of the Trans-Siberian railway': showing the route from the Ingoda River to Hailar and two alternative routes from thence to Nikolsk (now Ussuriysk); also showing place names, rivers and high land. Scale: 1 inch to 25 miles. Lines of latitude and longitude. Dimensions: (1) 20.5 cm x 25.5 cm; (2) 11.5 cm x 16.5 cm; (3) 41 cm x 48 cm; (4) 33.5 cm x 96 cm. All items originally enclosed in a report on the Manchurian section of the Trans-Siberian Railway by Colonel Browne Military Attache, Peking (now Beijing).
