Western Pacific Ocean: Banaba (now part of Kiribati). 3 maps. (1) 'Ocean Island showing proposed area of approximately 150 acres for mining and approximately 27.75 acres for non-mining purposes': also showing existing railways. (2) 'Ocean Island': showing proposals for a new mining area, and for new main railways and cableways; also showing European settlements and quarters for native people. (3) Copy of item 1. Reference tables to all items. Scale: (1, 3) 1 inch to about 0.17 miles; (2) 1 inch to about 0.05 miles. Compass indicators. Items 1 and 3 compiled from plans lodged with the resident commissioner. Dimensions: (1, 3) each 35 cm x 33.5 cm; (2) 99 cm x 110 cm. Item 1 originally annexed to [a copy of] the award of the arbitrators under the provisions of the mining ordinance, 1928, which was enclosure number 5 to a report by J S Neill, 31 January 1931. Item 2 originally enclosed with correspondence relating to mining rights, 1930.
