Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick to Holdernesse, partly in cipher: seeing the impossibility of maintaining his position in Hesse, he sent the hereditary prince with a large force to investigate the enemy position in Grimberg, where he was surrounded and lost several battalions. He consequently fell back on the river Eder. Reasons for raising the siege of Cassel. He then fell back on the Diemel to be within reach of the depots of the Weser.
