Description

This series contains two bound copies of printed submissions from the Metropolitan Police Office Receiver to the Under-Secretary of State.

The estimates in the second volume (HO 395/2) are marked "confidential: for the use of the Secretary of State only". The estimates include a covering note explaining plans and assumptions, followed by a detailed analysis of estimated cost of salaries, buildings (official and residential), pensions etc. There are also supporting tables referring to, for example, ratio of police per head of population and number of prisoners kept overnight in cells. The second volume includes the published version of the accounts. There is some manuscript annotation of the accounts.
