Description

Acknowledges receipt of letter; encloses copies of his speech to the Legislature, with their addresses and his answers; reports great tranquility in Grenada; states 'of the coloured Insurgents who were in the Woods, at the time of my arrival, the greater part have surrendered themselves, in consequence, of my holding out to them, an offer of security for their Lives, so I have good reason to think, the Number still out, is reduced very low'; reports abrupt end of the special court of Oyer and Terminer; refers to Secretary of State's decision with regard to punishment of 'insurgents'; refers to individuals of 'French extraction', mainly women, nearly all connected with several of the executed 'rebels' which he views 'of suspicious character themselves', that 'during the time of the troubles' left Grenada and retired to Trinidad; health of the island; transmits certified copies of two Acts; An Act for Providing an Additional Support for His Excellency Charles Green Esquire Governor &c &c &c; An Act for the Punishing Slaves under Sentence of Banishment or Confinement to Hard Labour in Chains, Who Shall Escape or Attempt to Escape &c &c &c.
