Description

Transmits certified copies of two acts [not in item]; one relating to the trial and punishment of enslaved people involved in the 'insurrection' and the other to amend and enlarge the act commonly called the confiscation act; gives update on activities of 'insurgents'; states 'Morne Quaqua, the Strong hold of the Insurgents, has been taken, and their principal Body dispersed: many have died or have been killed during the Insurrection, and a few are gone from the Island: but there still remains a desperate band of Free coloured men and negroes in the woods, whom it may be very difficult entirely to subdue ... The remains of the white Inhabitants concerned in the Insurrection (about eighty in number) have been brought in or have surrendered, and about the same number of Free Colored Inhabitants'; updates on people charged to 'suffer death'; encloses copy of letter from judges on the trial of 47 people, signed by Thomas Bridgwater; Samuel Mitchell; Benjamin Webster; Alexander Cockburn; A. Scott; Henry Palmer; reply from Houstoun to judges.
