From 1 October 1974, the Home Office transferred to the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection some of its responsibilities. These involved home safety and safety of consumer goods (including the making of regulations under the Consumer Protection Act 1961); fire hazards in consumer goods and safety matters relating to the sale of fireworks.
