Folio 179. Memorandum. CG Savage to the Poor Law Commissioners. Plans for altering and enlarging Manchester Workhouse to accommodate 1600 people at an estimated cost of £10,254. The plans have been well considered and the estimate for the proposed works is moderate. Some saving could be made by reducing the height of the proposed new wings, some design aspects of which were made for appearance sake and are superfluous. Charles Mott, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner with responsibility for Manchester, comments that he will consult with the Guardians and report back their opinion
