Folio 159. Letter from Daniel Hope, overseer of Prestwich, to the Poor Law Commissioners. Among returns submitted at an earlier date there is a mistake. The returns state that the debt of £750 owed by the town at the passing of the Poor Law Amendment Act (4 and 5 William 4 Cap 76) is secured by a mortgage deed upon the town's future poor rates as stated, and not on the workhouse according to the Poor Relief Act of 1819 (59 George 3 Cap 12). £100 was borrowed in 1820 for building a workhouse according to the provisions of the Poor Relief Act and should have been paid back by seventeen yearly installments which has not been done, as £600 is still owing to the executors of the late Mr Lyon
