Description

Stair to Carteret: he posted battalions to cover the most likely French approaches. He always invited all the general officers to accompany him on his reconnaissances. Objections to entrenchment as 'dishonourable'. He disregarded the king's orders to re-cross the Main because of the imminence of attack by Nouailles. Deployment of the troops beyond the Main. He has now re-crossed the Main. Shortage of fodder. Dated at Höchst. PS. on his satisfaction with the Hanoverian troops and the general officers. ff. 102-106
