Stair's project: he suggests that instead of marching for the Moselle, the Hanoverians should in five or six weeks send a reconnaissance party into Juliers and the archbishopric of Cologne to determine to see how many cavalry they could support, the remainder to stay in the low countries. The British to follow a similar plan, and the Hessians, except that the latter should first occupy Liège. A train of artillery could be brought up in the spring to clear the Rhine to Mainz. The Austrians would deploy either in Germany or in the low countries. Dated at Brussels. ff. 214, 215
