Description

Stair and Robert Trevor to Carteret: his satisfaction at the speed with which the guarantee of the peace preliminaries has progressed. He encloses a copy of his letter to the king of Prussia [SP 87/9/18]. His meeting with the pensionary. He lent him the memorial until Monday morning, and received it back with a note [SP 87/9/19] that it should not be presented that day. Count Opdam came to plead the same. Delay to the resolution [to put troops in the field] and Dutch request to change an article in the memorial. Stair encloses a list of all the French troops in the Netherlands [SP 87/9/20] given him by the pensionary. The king of France has resolved to recall Maillebois' army. Stair and Aremberg have written to the electors of Koblenz and Mainz, offering assistance. Stair encloses copies of his letters to the electors of Mainz [SP 87/9/21] and Trier [SP 87/9/22]. He has heard from Robinson that the grand duke was to set out for Prague and that Count Khevenhüller intended to attack the French on the Danube. Dated at The Hague. Ps. on his letter to the king of Prussia and the satisfaction of Count [Otto Christoph von] Podewils. ff. 33-36
