Stair to Carteret: he has no objection to Villiers' scheme to detach Saxony from France. He recommends engaging troops from Cologne and other German states as the circumstances are so propitious. He encloses a letter from the king's agent in Amsterdam, Renard [SP 87/9/12], to reinforce his case. He proposes an increase in Renard's salary. Excessive caution of the pensionary. Dated at The Hague. Ps. that he encloses a letter from a Colonel [William] Graeme in the army of Prince Charles [of Lorraine] [SP 87/9/13]. ff. 21-23
