Description

John Clevland. By an Establishment made in 1746, Pilots brought to Portsmouth from Guernsey and Jersey are allowed 20s. for their passage if not brought in a Man of War and were to be entered on the Hulk and paid by day. If Commissioner Hughes and Vice Admiral Osborn wish them to be paid from the time of their setting out from Guernsey or Jersey, they should be paid. It does not appear by any accounts that Pilots who served in the late war were entered from the time of their engagement in the Islands
