Thomas Corbett. We complained to Chauncey Townsend about his vessel, the Tyger, which was hired to ship troops to St. Johns, Newfoundland and was not ready. Mr Townsend has produced a sworn statement by his clerk, Thomas Law, that in 1742, Mr Goodwin, Master Attendant at Deptford, accepted a bribe from him to complete the unloading of a vessel. At a hearing with Mr Townsend, Mr Law, Mr Goodwin and Commissioner Whorwood, Mr Goodwin says he used the money to hire labour to unload the ship which was not substantiated and he was suspended
