Josiah Burchett. Some of the Tyger's men petitioned about bedding and hammocks destroyed following infectious diseases at sea. Captain Forbes reports that when men were put ashore at Deal for treatment, their bedding was thrown overboard on the instructions of Captain Stanley. The Sheerness Officers refused to put the hammocks into store and burnt them. We find that if the hammocks were lost by Public Order, the Boatswain could be compensated for their loss but this does not apply to bedding or personal effects unless lost in fireships. Opine that compensation should be paid as these were lost by Public Order
