Acknowledges receipt of letter; refers to appointment of Home as Lieutenant Governor; states that he shall at all times esteem it his duty to obey the commands of the King; states he had expected to receive Lieutenant Governorship and has 'the mortification to see a man put over my head, who for eighteen years has been under my command in this Island, and in the very place, which fourteen years ago, was promised to me by His Majesty, through the late Lord Sackville, whenever it should become vacant'; asks for 12 months leave of absence from Grenada as he cannot think of applying to Home when he arrives for permission.
