Description

Comments on a case in which a letter had been addressed to Lieutenant Governor Thomas Hamilton outlining an oath to be taken by Alexander Drysdale. Explains this was either a 'scandalous inattention or ... a flagrant abuse of justice' as there was no lieutenant governor on the island and Drysdale was not on the island. Encloses documents concerning the rights of Bermudians in the Turks and Caicos Islands including:

  • copies of the commissions of Andrew Symmor as agent, waiter and searcher at Turks Islands;
  • extracts from the journals of the General Assembly of Bermuda for 5 August 1768, 21 December 1769, 15 May 1776, and 11 July 1776;
  • an address of the Council and Assembly of Bermuda to the King of England dated 12 May 1787;
  • remarks on the rights of Bermuda subjects at the Turks and Caicos islands dated 12 May 1787;
  • a letter from George Bascome.
