Description

Reports the arrival of a detachment of three companies of the 47th (Lancashire) Regiment from the Bahamas. Comments on their health and accommodation in the barracks. Also discusses reports sent from Antigua that Great Britain and Holland were planning to go to war with the French Republic. Explains the state of the islands' defences and gives suggestions for maintaining food supplies in case of war. Encloses:

  • a letter written to General Clarke in Quebec concerning the expected war;
  • an account of the number of officers and other soldiers in the 47th Regiment;
  • a return of the provisions of flour, pork and rum for the use of the 47th Regiment;
  • a report by Captain Andrew Durnford RE calling for repairs to be made on the barracks.
