Administrative / biographical background
(Historical or biographical information about the creator of the record and the context of its creation)
-
Until 1972, when this function was transferred to the Department of Health and Social Security, the Home Office was responsible for the application of legislation concerning children in care. The cost to local authorities and to voluntary agencies (which administered residential homes approved by the Home Office) was met by the Child Care Vote, as were development and research projects, and the training of personnel for work in child care, including the work of the Central Training Council in Child Care (CTCCC).
After 1972, this series consists of policy and operational delivery files on funding of major Home Office initiatives. Topics include input to the financial costs and burdens of primary legislation, policy on funding procedures and value for money studies.
