Description

Refers to his letter of 16 September, when he reported he had sent a subaltern of the Carolina Corps, with a recruiting party, to Nova Scotia; reports he has returned; encloses an account of the recruits he has obtained, and expense he has incurred; reports 'the superior advantages offered to this class of People by the Sierra Leone Company, prevented this attempt from being as successful as it would otherwise have been'; return of recruits lists their name, age, 'size' [height], when enlisted, when attested, where born, and trade or occupation; names are: Peter Salisbury; Shadrach Jones; Thomas Savage; Edward Carey; Richard Jarret; Scipio Warren; Charles Caswill; John Vorhesen; Timmothy Davis; Moses Reid; Samuel Legree; Benjamin Pindarvis; William Nourland; James Russel; John Edwards; William Hamilton.
