Files of the Irish Office which became the Irish branch in 1922. Many of the files contain sub files that originated in the Chief Secretary's Office in Dublin Castle but later passed to the Irish Office and were re-registered there. Many of the files are concerned with the administrative consequences of the Government of Ireland Act 1920 which brought about the partition of Ireland. The series also includes files (from the late 19th century to 1928) on a variety of subjects, in particular the Royal Irish Constabulary but also disturbances, claims for compensation and appointments.
