Description

Reports he has been informed by Monsieur Sugnam [or Sugmam], 'a French Gentleman of Guadeloupe', that the number of estates burned and destroyed on the north side of the island of St. Domingo, by enslaved persons in the slave uprising, between 23 August and 23 October 1791 was: 172 sugar estates, 931 coffee estates, 10 cotton estates, and 13 indigo estates; also informed by same person that the number of enslaved persons 'in insurrection' is 88,460, of which it is 'computed' there are 12,000 'able to bear arms.'
