William de Odiham, son of Matthew de Odiham.
Name(s)
de Odiham, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Odiham requests the restoration of the keepership of Odiham Park which he was granted by the late king for his life after the death of Robert le Parker, and of which he had seisin until he was ousted by Despenser's lordship.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ to the justices assigned to hold the pleas of the king that they view the charter and call those who are to be called before them and hear their arguments and do justice.
Places mentioned
Odiham, [Hampshire].
People mentioned
Robert le Parker, former keeper of Odiham Park
Hugh le Despenser, the son.
Note
The petition is very clearly a petition of 1327 as it is a complaint made against the younger Despenser, and it is evident from the petition that Despenser was no longer in a position to use his lordship to intimidate the petitioner. In addition, the petition refers to a grant made by the late king, suggesting that the petition dates after the death of Edward II.
