Nature of request
The commonalty request that good men be ordained to enquire of the location of the staple in Hampshire and in the adjoining counties as it has been ordained that it be at Southampton but it of greater ease to the commonalty if it resides at Winchester as it has done until now.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.2) Because it was ordained by common council that the staple should be held at Winchester, let it be held there.

Note
The petition dates to 1326-32 as it is part of a lengthy dispute concerning the location of the staple in Hampshire. The staple was established at Winchester in 1326-8, but further ordinances were published on 16 September 1332 (CPR 1330-4, pp.362-3).
