Reference
SC 8/160/7978
Date
[1362-1369]
Description
Petitioners
Commons of Northumberland.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The commons request a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they be discharged of £6 22d which they have been charged for by the sheriffs of the county to pasture their affers in their own woods for the 'fence' time as if the woods were still forest, although the community agreed with Edward I for the disafforestation of the county for an annual rent.
Nature of endorsement
Sue towards the king.
Places mentioned
Northumberland.
Note
The petition probably dates to 1362-1369 on the basis of evidence noted by Fraser (Northumberland Petitions, pp.104-5 (no.82)). Fraser notes the surname of David de Woloure, a senior Chancery clerk and receiver of parliamentary petitions between 1362 and 1369. The petition is likely to date within this range.
