Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/160/7955
Date
[1325]
Description
Petitioners
People of Great Yarmouth.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people request a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they are able to account for their costs in equipping and arming 8 ships in addition to the 6 ships they prepared for the king's war in Scotland, and that they can have due allowance for the same, they having this by the writ of the king which ordered them to prepare the boats.
Nature of endorsement
They should go to Chancery and if such a writ emanated from there let it be ordered by writ of Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that when they have viewed the writ they should make allowance in the debts owed at the Exchequer.
Places mentioned
Great Yarmouth, [Norfolk]
Scotland.
People mentioned
John Perebroun (Perbroun), then admiral.
Note
The petition can be dated to 1325 on the basis of the close roll entry to make allowance to the petitioners. In addition, John Perbroun served as admiral of the north in 1322 and again in 1323 so that the petition must postdate his service. The petition does make mention of a regnal year, but this is not clear due to damage to the petition.
