Nature of request
[Petition in three parts].1) The Hakelutes request that a commission of oyer and terminer into things done in the court and hundred of Abergavenny be repealed as it is against the liberty of the heir of Pembroke.2) They request that the king order his hand be removed from various lands and manors which were seized as escheats because the earl of Pembroke had enfeoffed William de Hastings with them when Hastings had nothing of his feoffment.3) The Hakelutes request that they can have and enjoy their liberties which pertain to the castle and lordship of Abergavenny which was granted to her in dower by the king, and which is disturbed by the seizure of the lands and manors pertaining to it.1)
Nature of endorsement
Because this petition concerns the lords assigned to try the petitions from Wales and other lords in Wales, they do not wish to answer this petition because they . . . similar cases, and they request that it be ordered that they be brought before the king to the end that right and reason be done and be safeguarded in their ancient laws.2) Let this petition be examined by the chancellor, treasurer and other knowledgeable members of the council.3) The king wishes that the lords of Wales use the liberties that they ought to use, and their ancestors have used, and nothing be done of new.
