English monks of the order of Cluny.

Nature of request
[Petition in 7 parts].1) The monks request amendment and remedy for the misgovernment of their houses.2) They complain that they are not visited by archbishops or bishops of the land.3) They complain that there are no elections and those that are pastors are not clergy but money collectors who take their goods out of the land.4) They complain that if a monk speaks about the order and religion they are sent 100 leagues away on foot without expenses so that none dare speak of the religion.5) They complain that they have to go overseas to be professed and get no expenses, and request that the prior of Lewes should be made an abbot to profess monks in this country so that they don't have to go abroad.6) The complain about having two nations in one house as they will never agree.

Let it be ordered to the abbots and priors of the order who are of the king's patronage in England that they make hasty amendment of the things contained in the petition so that the king does not have to do it in another manner.Concerning the abbots and priors who are of other patronage let noting be done.
