Oliver de Ingham.
Name(s)
de Ingham, Oliver
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Ingham requests that he be restored to his manors of Codford and Avon, which he was forced to lease to the bishop of Exeter by his mastery and power. He was sent to Gascony soon after and has not been able to sue his case.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue at the common law.

Codford, Wiltshire
Avon, Wiltshire
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
[Walter de Stapledon], Bishop of Exeter
Richard de Stapleton, knight.
Note
The guard note seems to misdate this petition to c. 1324 on the basis of the licence granted to Ingham to grant the manors to the bishop (CPR 1321-4, p.395). As the petition makes clear, the petitioner was forced to do this, and then was out of the country in the king's service, so that the petition is likely to be some little time after this. Indeed, as the petition is so openly critical of the bishop of Exeter, it seems likely that the petition actually dates to 1327 or thereafter following the murder of the bishop in 1326.
