The merchants request that a writ be granted to the keepers of the passage and the port of Lynn so that they are able to go overseas for their profit as by a certain writ of defence sent to the keepers they are prevented from departing.

The petition has been dated speculatively to c. 1377 as the hand seems appropriate for a petition of that date, and the petition is addressed to the council, which was common during the first years of Richard II's minority.
