The abbot and convent request that they be granted a writ to the justice of the Forest or his lieutenant [to desist from interfering with the] abbot and convent's exploitation of their wood of Hope Mansell, some ministers of the Forest claiming the wood to be within the bounds of the forest.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ to the justice of the Forest of Dean or his lieutenant that he inform himself of the abbot's right by inquisition, and allow the abbot to make his profit from his wood in the manner that he and his predecessors have used from ancient times, and do right.
