Nature of request
Margaret [Giffard], widow of John Gyffard [Giffard] of Brimpsfield, requests remedy in her attempt to recover the manor of Syde, forfeited from her son, Sir John Giffard, and given by King Edward II to Hugh Despenser the elder and are now in the king's hand by Despenser's forfeiture; the muniments proving her claim were taken from her family as a result of the forfeiture.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be shown in Chancery if the manor of Syde was forfeited to the king for this reason, and of other matters; and if so, let certain persons be assigned in the Chancery to inquire of the matter and to return their inquisition into the Chancery, and justice will be done.

Firmly dated by reference to the abstract of the parliament roll of 1327 in Rot. Parl. Hac. Ined., pp. 154-5; there is however no evidence for the commission of inquiry ordered in the endorsement, but a commission and outcome are documented for 1332 (Petitions Relating to Wales, pp. 266-7).
