Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/159/7903
Date
[c. 1340]
Description
Petitioners
Hillard de Useflete (Ousefleet).
Name(s)
de Useflete (Ousefleet), Hillard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Useflete requests remedy as his father was disseised of 80 acres of moor and turbary in Ousefleet by Henry de Lacy, and these are now in the king's hand by release of the earl's daughter.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain people be assigned in Chancery to enquire into the matter and how the moor and turbary came into the king's hand, and when the inquisition has been returned into Chancery it should be shown to the king.
Places mentioned
Ousefleet, [West Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
William [de Useflete (Ousefleet)], father of the petitioner
Henry de Lascy (Lacy), Earl of Lincoln
Joan [de Lascy (Lacy)], widow of Henry de Lacy
Alice [de Lascy (Lacy)], daughter of Henry de Lacy.
Note
The petition is dated speculatively to c. 1340 on the basis that the order in the close rolls to the justices to proceed to judgment represents a later stage in the process and refers to Useflete's suit against the abbot of St Mary's, York into whose hand the moor had come (CCR 1341-3, p.253).
