The burgesses request that the king take the town into his hand stating that they are not able to pay their farm, and people leave the town because of the malice and false indictments and suits that the Claverings and their tenants make against people in the town.

Note
The petition dates to 1331 when the dispute between the people of Dunwich and the Clavering brothers seems to have to a head with both parties being ordered to appear before the king (CCR 1330-3, pp.360-1). The warrant to the bishop of Winchester to provide a remedy for the petitioners dates to 4 Mat 1331 (C 81/181/4563) The petition cannot be later than 1332 as John de Clavering was dead by January 1332 (CCR 1330-3, p.427).
